Support to Nurseries who provide Nursery Education

Once a setting is registered to deliver nursery education on behalf of the Local Authority they have involvement of qualified teachers through:

Nora Waugh - Quality Inspection Officer

Nora has an overview of Link/Advisory Teacher involvement, provides training and supports the development of quality Foundation Stage education within the maintained sector. Nora is also the Co-ordinator of ‘Flying Start 2’ The Durham Scheme for Foundation Stage Assessment. Nora can be contacted on tel: 0191 3835658.

Pam Bulman - Quality Promotion Officer

Pam’s role is to organise the Link/Advisory Teacher involvement in support of settings, identify training needs and monitor the quality of nursery education within the private, voluntary and independent sector. Pam can be contacted on tel: 0191 3833166.

Link Teachers

Every setting is allocated a Link Teacher who visits your setting each term to a set agenda. They support staff and work with the children. There are 10 Link teachers who are all experienced early years teachers.

Advisory Teachers

Durham has six full time Advisory Teachers, Norma Appleby, Julia Graham, Julia Thompson, Zoe Beasley, Chris Taylor and Julia Hutchinson. The Advisory Teacher’s role includes delivering an annual free contract to each setting registered for nursery education grant, linked to a curriculum area identified for development. They also give settings extra support as required to ensure the quality of nursery education is of a good standard and continually improving.
