The Essential Elements of a Routine

The essential elements of a routine are a combination of several experiences:

Free Play - Time for the children to access the activities and resources and to choose and direct their own activities.
Quiet time - Time for the children and adults to relax together, to discuss what they will do or have done. Time for a story.
Small Group time - Time for the adult directed activities designed to promote children's learning and development in specific areas.
Large Group time - Time for everyone to come together as a ‘community’. Time to have fun!
Outdoor Play - Time to play and learn outdoors. This should be planned play - play with a purpose and not purely recreational.
